Pockit and Monese are the all-in-one money apps that make it easy for people to access and manage the financial tools that put them in control of their money. We provide vital financial services, from e-money accounts through to income advance products to over three million customers across the UK and Europe. In October 2024, Pockit acquired Monese, creating the leading fintech for anyone who is budgeting, saving, or just trying to stay on top of their finances. Both firms are regulated by the FCA.

Following the acquisition of Monese, the business is on a trajectory of growth as the two organisations harmonise and integrate in both the UK and across Europe.

The Role

The Data team at Monese is focused on making sure good quality data is available for all stakeholders to drive our BI, building a highly robust and scalable data platform.

As Head of Data, you will lead a team of Data Engineers and Data Scientists to leverage our data at scale. Working closely with the BI and Cloud Engineering teams, you will be responsible for designing and running data pipelines and ML models that power advanced analytics and predictive work.

This is a hands-on role. The ideal candidate will have strong infrastructure and data architecture skills as well as experience with data analysis and data modelling.

What you will be doing

• Lead the strategy, architecture and execution of the company’s data platform, combining Monese and Pockit environments, and ensuring scalability and cost efficiency.

• Manage and mentor a cross-functional team of Data Engineers and Data Scientists.

• Establish best practices for data modeling, orchestration, CI/CD, and MLOps pipelines.

• Drive cloud cost optimizations and the adoption of open table formats (Apache Iceberg).

• Define and implement data governance, data quality, and security frameworks aligned with regulatory standards (GDPR, ISO27001).

What we are looking for

• Excellent communication skills.

• Proven track record designing data lakehouse or data warehouse architectures.

• Hands-on experience with:

  • Data storage - e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, Iceberg, or equivalents.

  • Cloud services - Preferably on AWS: S3, Glue, Athena.

  • Data orchestration - e.g. Apache Airflow, Step Functions, or similar.

  • Data processing - e.g. dbt, Kafka, Flink, or equivalent frameworks.

• Deep understanding of data modeling architectures (Dimensional, Data Vault, Medallion).

• Familiarity with MLOps tools and frameworks (e.g. SageMaker)
