Following the acquisition of Monese, the business is on a trajectory of growth as the two organisations harmonise and integrate in both the UK and across Europe.
The Role
As a member of the Cloud Infrastructure team, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance and security of the organization's Database infrastructure. Working closely with Cloud Engineers, Product Engineers and Cybersecurity experts, you will take the lead in the management, design and optimization of the Databases that enable services for hundreds of thousands of customers across Europe.
What you will be doing
Lead the design and architecture of database solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and adherence to best practices. Evaluate and recommend appropriate database systems and technologies based on business requirements.
Optimize database performance through advanced techniques such as query optimization, indexing, and database configuration adjustments.
Conduct capacity planning to anticipate future resource requirements and ensure that databases can handle growing data volumes.
Design and implement high availability (HA) solutions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous access to critical data.
Develop and test disaster recovery (DR) plans to recover data in the event of system failures or disasters.
Establish and enforce robust security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing, to ensure data confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Plan and execute database system upgrades, applying patches and updates to ensure the security and stability of the database environment.
Develop automation scripts to streamline routine database administration tasks, improving efficiency and reducing manual effort.
Collaborate with other Tech teams, developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure seamless integration with applications.
Contribute to the development of long-term database strategies aligned with organizational goals. Provide input on budgeting, resource allocation, and technology roadmap planning.
Implement advanced monitoring solutions to track database performance, health, and potential issues. Configure alerts and notifications for critical events.
Lead or contribute to database-related projects, such as migrations, consolidations, or technology adoptions.
What we are looking for
Solid experience in PostgreSQL database administration, database engineering, or related roles. Proven experience in managing large-scale databases and complex database environments.
Proficiency in working with transactional database systems in cloud infrastructure. Preferably AWS RDS and Aurora.
Understanding of database security principles, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
Proficiency in database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
Ability to monitor and optimize database performance using tools and techniques like query optimization, indexing, and caching.
Knowledge of IaC principles and Terraform to automate provisioning.
Proficiency in scripting languages to automate routine database and maintenance tasks.
